Currently, the 2011/2012 School Advisory Council members are working diligently on the New Member Recruitment Drive for the upcoming school year. The mission of Banyan Elementary’s Advisory Council is to assist in the development and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan and to advise the administration with decisions in matters that will academically and economically better the school by acting as a liaison between the community and the school. Council members are asked to attend monthly meetings (September thru May) and are asked to represent the best interests of our students and school.

Banyan Earth Day Clean-Up
On Friday, April 27th students, faculty, and staff participated in Banyan Earth Day Clean-Up. The school was divided into six zones and armed with garbage bags and gloves. The Banyan Family collected trash, thus continuing the beautification process which began in March.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Media Center
Banyan Elementary celebrated the grand opening of their brand new library media center on Friday, April 27th, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Mrs. Laurie Rich Levinson, District 6 School Board Member, Dr. Desmond K. Blackburn, Central Area Superintendent, Dr. Eric T. Miller, Principal, Banyan Elementary, and Mrs. Cheryl Proctor, Assistant Principal, Banyan Elementary, spoke to parents, teachers, staff, and students before the Ribbon Cutting. Mrs. Cheri Murto presented Mr. Bruce Voelkel, retired principal, Banyan Elementary, with a plaque, dedicating the new library media center to him, for his dedication in making this dream of a new library media center come true! The 8,656 square feet free-standing building includes a teacher resource room, media training room, state-of-the-art TV studio for the school's WBAN morning show, video conferencing equipment, conference room and a computer lab with 20 laptops.
