Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year.
Hello Parents and Families,
My name is Amanda Heichen, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the Math Coach at Banyan Elementary. My role is to support teachers, students, and families in building strong math foundations that will help every child succeed.
Math is more than numbers, it’s the foundation for problem-solving, critical thinking, and future success in every subject. Building strong math skills early helps children develop confidence and prepares them for real-world challenges.
How can you support your child at home?
-
Practice daily: Spend just 10–15 minutes on math activities like counting, multiplication, or simple word problems. Encourage your child to use scratch paper and pencil to show their work! Students can complete iReady Math at home, we are looking for them to pass two lessons per week on iReady!
- Make it fun: Use games, puzzles, or everyday tasks (like cooking or shopping) to show how math is part of life.
- Ask questions: Encourage your child to explain their thinking. This builds understanding and confidence.
- Celebrate effort: Praise persistence, not just correct answers. A positive attitude toward math starts with encouragement.
Together, we can make math enjoyable and meaningful for every child. Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s learning journey!
